HOMUNCULUS (Latin, ‘little man’) is the visual representation of parts of the body according to what area of the brain controls them. Sensation and movement of different parts of the body are controlled by different areas of the brain. For instance, when you move your index finger, a specific area of your brain triggers a signal that tells the muscles in your index finger to move.

Poor posture and bad habits in movement place undue of pressure on the spine. The resulting muscular tension is a frequent cause of back pain, which may also radiate to other areas of the body, such as the head, neck, arms and legs. This is why each Yoga Asana generally involves some part of the spine in the exercise.
